Playing with Star

This is the first time they've played together without star getting mad!
Hobbes gets bigger on a daily basis. We have lots of pictures, going to have to make a flicker account or something...

a snack

Progress on the Hobbes + Star friendship.

Yesterday

Andreas came over to hang out, Hobbes even fetched for him. Also Astrid got to see him.
Star is starting to be okish... she hung out ontop of Alix's chair while Hobbes did some ninja training on the floor, she only growled at him a little bit :D

Close contact still ends in a couple bops on the head though :\

This morning i was woken via mews at a much more reasonable hour. Its starting to get cold at night so i went out and bought him a heat pad that i can microwave for him before bed.

Fetching

Domestication

I am completely blown away by how much i care about Hobbes... it goes beyond my reason quite a bit, must be pure broken instinct with some part of me thinking its a human child. Nothing else could get me up at 6am with a splitting headache just to keep someone company.

I feel increasingly proud at how fast he's learning, just the difference in his ability to jump up on the tan chairs. Its awesome to watch him grow so quickly, and im feeling much more confident leaving him on his own.

Ive pretty much taught Hobbes how to fetch this morning! He likes to carry his toys around in his mouth, and he likes to play near my feet. So he goes and grabs a toy, runs over with it in his mouth (sometimes swatting at it with his front paws as he runs) and i slowly grab it from him and throw it across the room, he rushes after it, grabs it and gallops right back! its pretty awesome.

Also, he doesn't seem to mind Daft Punk.

Chair climbing sucessfull

today Hobbes has made it to the top of our tan folding chairs by himself, this is his new favorite place to chase his tail until he passes out.

There have been numorus encounters with star, most ending with a growl or two, some with a couple malicious pats on the head. For quite a while star was at one end of the hall way keeping Hobbes in the living room.

He got a visit from Melissa last night and ran right up to her, keeping true to his namesake:Visits are welcome, but i can not be responsible for death or dismemberment from his terrible mandibles.

Currently he's managed to jump from the tan folding chair (a considerable distance for a kitten), onto my computer chair and passed out, sharing the seat with me.

a dream

yesterday morning i had a dream where Hobbes became a giant kitten and was destroying Oneonta... but i was Doctor McNinja... and i arrived on the scene just in time... a bystander said "but what can we do, he's just a kitten! who could possibly be qualified to handle this!?"

and i said "Your in luck, I'm completely qualified to handle this, if indeed there were such a qualification!"

I sprinted after Hobbes, lab coat blowing in the wind.

day 3

Hobbes is kicking a felt computer mouse's but as i type.
today so far:
  • practiced the stairs with Alix - not quite ready yet
  • got bopped on the head twice by Star (but she's getting used to him)
  • Slept on Calvin's keyboard, enough to warrant hooking up a secondary USB keyboard that can be swapped out.
  • Slept with Calvin on the floor, because Calvin was exhausted from all the kittening.
We called the vet yesterday and are going to make an appointment in another 3 weeks.

Hobbes playing with Alix

Hobbes comes home

2 days ago we brought home Hobbes, a little 6week old kitten. He promptly fell asleep on my keyboard.

I thought i would create a little blog to let the world know about his life, because i think he is the most spectacular kitten in the world.

Alix and i were out getting some IceCream Cake to celebrate our 7 year Anniversary. And low and behold the local pawn shop had a Kitten adoption sign outside. Alix loves cats, and kittens are adorable so we went inside to take a look.

We have turned down adorable kittens before, but something seemed right this time, i dont know. We left to get the cake and talked about it. I jokingly said "well, its 7 years, so its ither kids or a kitten... and i know we dont want kids yet, so theres really no choice."

We decided this kitten would be my kitten, because Alix allready has Star (a russian blue) who has been with her sense before i knew her. And that way their wouldnt be so much jealousy as i would be the one doing all the work for the new kitten... plus i got to name him Hobbes.

Star is a little upset when she sees him, but I think it will all work out. Right now he's passed out on my lap and letting me code. More later.
